Blackboard: How to create a banner in PowerPoint

The following instructions will help you create a customized banner using PowerPoint.

  1. Open PowerPoint.
  2. Click on the Design tab and the click Page Setup.
  3. On the Page Setup window, scroll down and choose Banner. Click OK.
  4. Change default Banner dimensions to 8″x1″. PowerPoint may give you a warning that the document size exceeds…if so, simply click the button that says “Fix“.
  5. Begin laying out your banner. In the Presentation screen, type your course name, add a background color, and insert other images if you like.
  6. Click on File in the menu, and select Save as
  7. Select .PNG or .JPEG from the “Save as type” drop-down menu. Click Save.
  8. Select Current Slide Only when the Export Slide window appears.

  1. The instructions to this blog are applicable to PowerPoint on the PC. If you use a Mac, in step 2 replace the command ‘Design tab’ with ‘Themes tab’. The rest of the instructions would then be compatible with the Mac.

    • Correction: On a PC, select the ‘Design tab’ and then expand ‘Slide Size’ and the ‘Custom Slide Size’ to locate the equivalent of Page Setup. The rest of the instructions in the blog are compatible with the PC.
