What is the Content Collection Tab?

All USD Faculty now have access to the Content Collection feature in Blackboard. The tab is located on the header of the faculty page. Now faculty can share file among courses which has the advantage that you only have to update a file one time and it updates in all places you’ve put it. Storing content for all of your courses in one place makes it easier to incorporate content from one course into a similar one. Professors may also provide passes to supplemental content for individual students from the content collection.

Course Files is the other option as a file repository and this comparison helps point out the differences between the two:

Course Files Content Collection
  • Content is stored for a single course.
  • You cannot share content across courses.
  • Students do not have access to store or share files.
  • You can store content for multiple courses you teach.
  • You can share content across courses and with other users.
  • Students may have access to store or share files.

This is a tool that can also make course migration and creation easier. It is worth exploring the Content Collection as an option for your file repository but sometimes the most comfortable tool is the best one.
