Come Join the iTeam at the Summer Innovation Institute!

Summer Innovation Institute 2015Come learn more about technology and join the iTeam this summer at the Summer Innovation Institute, starting June 1st through June 12th!

What is the Summer Innovation Institute? The SII is a 2-week, intensive transformational instructional program for full-time, benefit-based faculty. SII will enable faculty to build or improve a current Blackboard course, utilize learning technologies and functionality designed to increase student engagement. We will examine course materials, discover techniques for ‘flipping the classroom’ and delve into pedagogical theory with hands-on course development opportunities and guidance from the ITS instructional support team. Participants will greatly expanded their technology toolkits and become more confident deploying instructional technologies for academic use.

Who can attend? Any full time, benefits based faculty member! There’s even a stipend for those faculty members that do attend, as well as use of an iPad.

Are there any prerequisites for coming? Yes – completion of 2 hour Blackboard New Users training (if you haven’t, click here to see upcoming opportunities through IT Training), pre-course survey, and pre-assigned reading assignments.

2013 Summer Innovation Institute Day 1

Bright and early on an August summer day, 16 faculty representing six colleges at the University of San Diego gathered to help kick-off ITS’ first Summer Innovation Institute.  Faculty heard from members of the iTeam about how to create an exemplary course in Blackboard and new features in Blackboard 9.1 Service Pack 12; Carole Huston, Associate Dean of CAS, about assessment and rubric design; and Marcy Darby, Assistant Director of the Center for Educational Excellence, on syllabus design.

They concluded the afternoon with a partnered discussion on what they would change in their syllabi as a result of what they learned from the day’s speakers, and some reflective learning–journaling about their experiences at the SII. Below are some photos from the first day.
